FAQs

Hi! If you are here it's probably because something isn't working and we know that can be frustrating. Please look through the FAQ's and see if that answers your question or send us a message using the form to the left. We look forward to hearing from you!
I’ve never taken an online class before. How does it work? Classes are hosted in your online classroom—My Classes—which you can access when you log on to carlasonheim.com. Each class is a combination of video lessons, class notes and interactions with the teacher and classmates via a closed Facebook group and/or private emails. Most classes include 6 to 12 lessons. Each lesson typically demonstrates several new techniques and then provides an assignment for you to complete.
What’s a “live” class? A “live” class is an all-new course that’s presented within a two- or three-week timeframe—sometimes more. If you sign up for an all-new class, you will be able to access the Class Overview page immediately, with a welcome note from your teacher, dates to remember, and the supply list all in one place.. Once class begins, you will receive an email each lesson day reminding you to log into your online classroom (My Classes) to view and participate in that day’s lesson. One of the great benefits of taking a live class is the online community that’s hosted in a private Facebook group. Here you can meet your fellow students, view and comment on their work, and also post your work as well—it’s a great place to cheer each other on during the class. Also during live sessions the instructor is 100% ready and available to answer any questions and give feedback.
So what’s a “self-study” class? When a live class is over, it reverts to a “self-study” class. In a self-study class you receive exactly the same content as a live class. You can still post your work to Facebook and email your instructor, however, it may take a day or so before they can respond your email. Both live and self-study classes are popular and it’s just a matter of personal preference which one you take!
I will be away for part of the class. Can I still participate? Of course! The lessons go live in your online classroom the morning of each lesson day (usually at 12:05am PST) and it’s up to each student when they would like to view the material. In addition, all the videos and class materials are available to you forever!
I live in New Zealand/Africa/Europe/South America/China/etc. Can I still participate? Absolutely! The lessons go live in your online classroom the morning of each lesson day (usually at 12:05am U.S. Pacific Standard Time). When the lesson appears, you can work the material on your schedule. Instructors comment on artwork as it comes in, no matter where you live!
Can I share the links with my friends? Your class fee is good for participants living in a single household. So, you can share with your kids, your partner, or anyone else living with you. Other than the above, please don’t share the links with friends or family! If you are part of a group and would like to request a group rate, please email steve at steve[at]sonheimcreative.com!
I haven’t drawn since the third grade. Are your classes suitable for beginners? Yes, our classes are designed so that students of all levels find a warm, supportive, and challenging environment in which to learn and grow. In the rare case that a class is not suitable for beginners, it will be clearly stated.
How long do I have access to the class videos? You have indefinite, lifetime access to our classes, so you can revisit the material anytime.
